Egypt, a country situated mainly in the northeast corner of the African continent bordering the Mediterranean Sea in the north and the Gulf of Suez, the Gulf of Aqaba, and the Red Sea in the east. Alexandria was once one of the greatest cities in the world. The population has grown rapidly over the last hundred years due to high birth rates and rural to urban migration. Alexandria was well-known as the academic center of the world. Today, it is an important port city and industrial area. A city of epic historical proportions, much of its integral beauty and cultural importance has faded, but it is still possible to glimpse its past glory.
